James C. Thoman Wins US Masters National Skiing Championship

In March of 2009, James C. Thoman participated in the US Masters National Skiing Championship in Sunday River, Maine. He finished as the overall Champion in Class 2 (age group 30-35). Competition is organized under the rules of the United States Ski Association (USSA), the national governing body for skiing and snowboarding. The USSA Alpine Masters organize alpine ski racing for competitors 21 and up. Each winter, regional and national ski racing events are organized by masters groups throughout the US. In preparation for the national competition, Mr. Thoman participated in the New York State Masters series which holds events throughout New York State all winter long. In the New York State Masters Series, he finished first in Class 2 and in second place for all age groups.

Mr. Thoman is a member of the firm’s Business Restructuring and Bankruptcy practice group as well as the Commercial Transactions practice group. He has represented corporate debtors as well as commercial creditors and lessors in bankruptcy proceedings throughout the country. While a law student at the University of Buffalo, Mr. Thoman was a recipient of the Prof. Thomas E. Headrick Award in Corporate Finance and served as Business Editor of the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review.

As a participant in the C.A.R.E. program, Mr. Thoman educates high school seniors on the risks of credit card debt and bankruptcy. He is President of the Board of Directors of Adapt, CNY, Inc., a non-profit organization committed to the economic redevelopment of the City of Syracuse. Mr. Thoman also serves as a Trustee on the Board of the Central New York Bankruptcy Bar Association.  In 2008, Mr. Thoman was named to the Greater Syracuse 40 Under 40 List of Professionals.
